Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has had a challenging period, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time mentor Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents the player's initial trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface from spring of the previous year.

Success also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my children simultaneously, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive play style and recurring reactions on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his ability to compete at the highest level was over.

But the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and perform assertively, backed up by an better serving game.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his first professional championship, seized the initiative to create a third set.

The opponent defended 4 initial chances in a competitive third set before Medvedev broke to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner earned the win with a point at the net area, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
